Top 10 Pictures from Sri Lanka’s Highlands and Interior

Sri Lanka has so many different, beautiful landscapes in its interior. Here are our favourite pictures from Sri Lanka’s Highlands and historical sites.

1. Lipton’s Seat

Waking up early to see the sunrise over tea plantations from Lipton’s Seat was definitely worth while. This picture beautifully captures the red sky above green tea plantations as their hills poke through the cloud forests.

2. Horton Plains

This lone tree on the edge of Horton Plains gives great contrast to the rising sun behind.

3. Horton Plains

We had a gorgeous sunrise at World’s End Lookout with these red clouds hovering above the seemingly endless rows of hills.

4. Haputale

A train passing through a hilly tea plantation is the quintessential picture of the Sri Lankan Highlands.

5. Ella

The lovely, Nine Arch Bridge is very picturesque in its jungle setting. Capturing this old red train on the tracks adds to its beauty.

6. Dambulla

We love the way light is captured on this white dagoba and brightly painted, low ceilings in this cave temple in Dambulla.

7. Sigiriya

This is a great pictures of the colourful Lion’s Rock standing proudly above the extensive Water Gardens of Sigiriya Palace.

8. Yala National Park

We were finally able to get a great picture of these extraordinary looking Malabar Pied Hornbills in Yala National Park.

9. Polonnaruwa

The green moss covering the ruins of an ancient monastery in Polonnaruwa made for a fantastic picture.

10. Sigiriya

We love this view of Lion’s Rock with its awkward bulges, standing out above the thick jungle below.
