We love independent travel. The ability to set your own itinerary, go at your own pace and seek out relatively unknown gems in a new city is our preferred style. That type of travel makes us a good fit for GPSmyCity and we are proud to announce our new partnership with them as content contributors.

If you love exploring new cities on foot, then this app may be just what you’re looking for.

This easy-to-use app provides travellers access to a large library of travel blogs from around the world. You can then convert your favourite ones into personal walking tours. What’s even better is that these tours can be downloaded onto your phone or tablet, saving you precious data when you’re on the road.

It’s like having your own personalized tour guide, right in your phone, but with a tour that you’ve created.

GPSmyCity has cleverly linked the tourist sites mentioned in the travel articles with one-touch links that take you to an interactive map. Using GPS signals, you can walk these same routes that you’ve created at your own pace. You can add sites one by one, or visit all of those recommended in the blog post. It’s your decision. There’s even a voice command option to make sure you don’t get lost.

Additionally, in many cities there are pre-planned maps to choose from, making it even easier to travel independently. Or if you prefer, you can create your own map from a list of top sites in the city.

As part of this new venture, we are offering three of our articles for free on the GPSmyCity app. For the next two weeks, until July 21, 2025, you can download these articles and their integrated GPS coordinates by using the links below. Remember, it’s not just the articles, because you can always read those for free on Monkey’s Tale, it is the ability to change those articles into a usable map that makes this app worthwhile.

Here are the Monkey’s Tale articles we are making free to download for the next two weeks. Once they’re downloaded, you can access them whenever you want.

The Grand Architectural Monuments in Meknes – If you’re visiting Morocco, you’ll want to visit the historic city of Meknes to see its mansions and mausoleums that are ornamented beyond comparison. This post will take you to those sites and more in Meknes, Morocco.

Exploring The Heights of La Paz – As one of the highest cities in the world, the city of La Paz has one of the most unusual locations. When you look from the rim of the canyon down to the city below, the view is dumfounding. This post will take you through the top sites in the fascinating city of La Paz.

Belem – The City of Mango Trees – Its location on the Pará River, not far from both the Atlantic Ocean and the Amazon River, meant that Belém was a very important port city during Brazil’s 19th century rubber boom. As a result, the city became filled with opulent buildings, a sign of this wealth. Come with us as we take you to the sites in Belém, Brazil.

  • You can download the free GPSmyCity app from their website, in the Google Play Store or from the Apple App.
  • Once you have the app, you can download articles that will help you decide which sites to see and use them to create your own self-guided walking tours. The links above will take you to our articles once you’ve downloaded the app. There are links to our other posts below, that will do the same.
  • The maps you create are easy to follow. A blue arrow indicates where you are and follows you as you move along the route to each site. As you walk, you may notice other sites suggested on the map that you didn’t even know about before. If you want to change the route, add or delete sites, you can easily modify the map as you go.
  • Your route can be set as a circular route that returns you to your starting point, often your hotel, or can begin and end in different places.
  • Once your map is created, you’re ready to explore!
  • If you like the app, which we think you will, you can subscribe to receive a larger selection of travel posts. You can download the integrated articles one by one or purchase an annual subscription and have unlimited access to the library of travel blog posts.

As well as the three posts listed above, the following Monkey’s Tale articles are also available on GPSmyCity. Click on the links to go directly to GPSmyCity:

For our regular readers, don’t worry, nothing will change. You will still be able to follow our adventures around the world for free. The posts that are on GPSmyCity will have a link to the app, but the look and feel of our blog will remain the same.

Did you know our friend Nilla, from Image Earth Travel, is also a partner with GPSmyCity?

We’re very excited about this new venture and look forward to sharing more of our adventures with everyone on GPSmyCity.

  2. Great news, Maggie, and welcome aboard GPSmyCity!

Thank you for the shout-out and for sharing my travel and photography site in this post – much appreciated.

It’s wonderful when we can inspire people to travel, or for those who may not be able to, sharing our experiences can hopefully help with their dreams. 🙂

    1. Thanks Nilla, and with GPSmyCity I hope we’ll reach and inspire a much larger audience.

      1. I hope so too as travel broadens the mind, among other things. 🙂

        1. Yes, and that seems to be needed in today’s world

  3. This is cool – I just contacted them to sign up as a contributor!

    1. So far they’ve been good to work with, good luck.

  4. Congrats, you guys!

  5. Congratulations! Very exciting.

    1. Thanks Lynette!

  6. This sounds wonderful, Maggie. Last week, I received an email from Anna Anderson, who was representing GPSmyCity with the same offer, but I haven’t made up my mind yet. Maybe I should look into it. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

    1. It was Anna that contacted us too. So far they’ve been great to work with. And we’ve been using it on our latest trip and really like its features.

  7. Congratulations. That looks really useful and I’ve passed it on to some travellers, overseas at the moment.

    1. Thanks so much we really appreciate it. We’re using the app on our current trip and it works really well for independent travellers.😊

  12. Congratulations on the partnership! What a great group to work with too- GPSmyCity is one of my favorite apps to use 🙂

    1. Thanks Meg, we really like the app too. It’s perfect for independent travellers.

  13. This sounds great! I’ve installed the app and downloaded one of your free articles (La Paz) so I can see how it works. How did you come to get involved?

    1. Thanks Sarah, I appreciate it. The app is great for making a walking map when you’re travelling in a new city. I’ve found many excellent blog posts, too. The company contacted us, out of the blue, to see if we were interested.
After using it a few times, we were sold.

      1. I thought that might be the case. I’m kicking myself as I had a similar query but I dismissed it without properly investigating as these things rarely seem worth doing, and there’s often a ‘price’ to pay in accepting guest blogs, which I will not do. This on the other hand seems very worthwhile so I’m regretting that now. Maybe they’ll reach out again …

        1. Yes, we get a lot of useless offers too, but I knew about the app and knew Nilla was with them so looked further into it and it worked for us.

          1. I’ll have to hope they try again some time!

          2. Aha, they have a form on their website to fill in if you’re interested in contributing – I’ll fill that in and see what happens

          3. They are easy to work with. When they approached me it was for the Spain posts, but ended up using South America.. It just depends what cities they’re looking for right now I think. And it’s only cities, not towns.

    2. Hi Sarah, I was contacted out of the blue some years ago and think they have almost 60 travel guides of mine, many about South America. 😉

  14. Congratulations on your new venture, Maggie. May it be prosperous for you and helpful to your followers.

    1. Thanks so much Mary!

  22. Congrats on your partnership with GPSmyCity. Sounds like an interesting concept. And one I’ll have to look into as I don’t have as much time these days to trip plan.

    1. Thanks so much Linda, weve been using it lately and it works great!

  23. That sounds like a fantastic app and so easy to use. I love being able to take the guesswork out of travelling in cities, but also being able to add my own places that I want to see. Big congrats on the partnership!

    1. Thanks Linda, it is a very useful app. Just was you said, its easy to make a map of the regular sites, but also flexible to add other less known ones.

  24. Very creative writing style and awesome photography! How long are you doing travel blogging already?

  25. GPSmyCity sounds like a very handy travel tool for someone like us who also enjoys touring on our own. Congratulations on a great partnership!

    1. Thanks so much, we’re pretty excited!

  26. Interesting post. I need to have a proper look at the app as they contacted me as well to partner but I didn’t have the time yet to properly look into it.

    1. They’ve been great so far. They now have 85 of our articles so we’ll see how it goes.

      1. Yes I will be interested to hear in a couple of months if actually it does benefit your blog.
I am always afraid of people using our hard work 😉.

We'd love to hear from you, please leave a comment.
