The rock cut temples in Ajanta are one of the most remarkable sites. These caves were dug out of solid rock with crude tools as early as the 3rd century BC. The temples are impressive works of art. This carving of Buddha is very dramatic with the lighting in the cave. That made us realize that the artists would have done all of this work by candle light.
